$sudo apt-get install xchat

• Enter the password for the super user.
• To get started on using xchat type 

$xchat

• Download the tarball from the following link

• Using wget from the terminal

$wget  http://xchat.org/files/source/2.8/?S=D 

• Decompress the tarball

$tar xvjf xchat-2.8.0.tar.bz2
